Giveaway: Win an Irish Farmhouse Cheese and Craft Beer Hamper
October 18, 2011 in Giveaways
The inaugural Farmhouse Cheese and Craft Beer Weekend takes places this October bank holiday weekend with over 30 planned events taking place nationwide from Thursday, 27 October until Monday, 31 October. Supported by Bord Bia, the events, ranging from cheese and beer tastings and pairings to talks and demonstrations, will take place in breweries, restaurants, gastropubs, off licences, farms and farmers’ markets around the country. (Please see below for a full event listing.)
The Farmhouse Cheese and Craft Beer Weekend is an effort to prove that craft beer (not just wine!) is an excellent accompaniment to cheese. Through the events, Bord Bia aims to raise awareness of the breadth of Irish farmhouse cheeses and craft beers amongst consumers. According to Eimear O’Donnell, Consumer Dairy Sector Manager, Bord Bia, “This celebratory weekend gives consumers a unique opportunity to get to know these acclaimed specialty categories and their local suppliers. There is a wonderful range of farmhouse cheese and craft beer being produced in Ireland and we now have an occasion to celebrate and enjoy some of our best produce.”
At present, there are 17 craft brewers in Ireland and approximately 50 farmhouse cheese makers producing over 140 varieties of cheese. Both crafts are not just about the flavour but also the people, personalities, places and stories behind them.
According to John McKenna, Bridgestone Guides, “We are dealing with the most bespoke artisan foods in the world when it comes to our farmhouse cheese and craft beers. Farmhouse cheeses convey the good things about Ireland – pure food, fine milk, content animals and creativity of a determined individual on a small Irish farm, stamping every cheese with the signature of their personality. It is marvelous to see both of these fine products being enjoyed and appreciated together!”
