Knockranny House Hotel in Westport, County Mayo, makes a regular feature of showcasing and celebrating some of the world’s best wines, and their forthcoming Wine Weekend on January 27th and 28th is a chance to meet many wine producers. Guests will enjoy tutored and blind tastings, partake in wine masterclasses and finally (and most importantly!) indulge in one of Seamus Commons’ famous Tasting Menus, with food designed to pair with many of these excellent wines, all over the course of one luxurious weekend.
Producers confirmed to participate in this informative, entertaining and, ultimately, enjoyable weekend include both established and innovative new wine makers from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.
In association with Liam Cabot, the winery participating from Austria is the Burgenland-based winery, Moric where Roland Velich has focused all of his attention on a single grape variety – Blaufrankisch. The wines have received the highest scores for any Austrian reds in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate magazine.
From France, the wineries represented will be Domaine Giullot-Broux, one of the oldest organic estates in Burgundy, Macon (Bourgogne) and Jean-Marc Millot, Nuits St. Georges. From Germany comes Weingut Künstler, double award winners of the prestigious Best German Wine Producer by the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
Italy provides two wineries – Cantina del Pino and Renzo Masi. Renato Vacca of Cantina del Pino has been described as “the most exciting up and coming Producer in Piedmont” by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Meanwhile, Paolo Masi of Renzo Masi is one of the most acclaimed Tuscan producers. Most recently, his ‘regular’ Chianti Rufina was listed in the Top 15 World Wine values by Wine Spectator Magazine. And finally, Slovenia will be represented by Verus, recently featured in Decanter Magazine as one of the Top 10 Central and Eastern European Wine Producers.
Knockranny House Hotel Wine Producers’ Weekend packages are available from €135 per person sharing for one night, or €189 per person sharing for two nights, which includes tutored and blind tastings and partake in wine masterclasses, and Tasting Menu in La Fougère, and breakfast the following morning.
