Giveaway: Win a Keogh’s hamper to celebrate National Potato Day
August 23, 2012 in Giveaways
The second annual National Potato Day on Saturday 25 August will see the Keogh family help to encourage the people of Ireland to revisit their roots and grow their love for the humble spud by eating one portion of potatoes this Saturday.
To mark this unique day in Ireland’s calendar, Keoghs are bringing a taste of their farm and its spud specialties from Oldtown, North County Dublin to the north quays of the River Liffey. A special marquee dedicated to the spud will be in place during the Tall Ships Races in Dublin from today, Thursday 23 August, until Sunday 26 August.
Keogh’s iconic I LOVE SPUD t-shirts and tote bags will be available, there will be demonstrations on how versatile the spud is with nutritional information, delicious and quirky recipes and many more spud surprises There might even be a few free samples of Keogh’s crisps and potato goodies.
On top of all this fun, Keogh’s will encourage people to show their support for the spud and sign their petition to make the potato the official vegetable of Ireland! The petition can be found at: www.keoghs.ie/potatopetition

I love, love, love potatoes! They make cooking such a joy as they are such an essential part of everyday cuisine the world over! Indian Bombay dishes, Thai Yellow curry, Italian Gnocchi, Spanish Tortilla, Canadian Poutine and of course the worldwide favourite, the French fry! Once I have a few spuds in my kitchen, I am spoilt for choice on what to cook!

Potatoes are my favourite food. I just spent the summer in Toronto and can honestly say the thing I missed most was an Irish spud.
Once I went into a restaurant and instead of a main course got all the different types of side orders of potatoes they had. Herb roasted. Garlic and cheese. A kind of hammy cheesy bake thing. And my personal favourite, champ. It was a good meal
Plus my best friend is a crispoholic and connoisseur so I’d love to win to share them with her!

Want to know the extent of my love for potatoes? Let me list the reaons for you.
- I would happily live off potatoes for the rest of my life. That’s right – breakfast, lunch and dinner (and obviously as a regular snack)
- I’ll give you one guess as to who my favourite character in Toy Story was (that’s right, Mr Potato Head)
- I have two cats, one of whom is called Spud! (I kid you not)
- Finally, without wanting to sound too boastful, you are looking at the 1998 potato and spoon race champion in my Primary School’s sports day.
And if I win this I would perhaps consider getting a tattoo of a potato on my backside (only consider though!
