Irish Food Bloggers Trip to the Herb Garden, Naul, Co. Dublin

August 16, 2012 in IFBA Events

Caitriona from Wholesome Ireland has organised a field trip to The Herb Garden in Naul, Co. Dublin, on Saturday, 25 August.

The Herb Garden is a certified organic herb nursery located not far from the Naul Road exit off the M1 motorway in North County Dublin.  Denise, the owner, has much expertise and knowledge to share with a particular focus on the use of herbs in food and foraging.

The day will start with a walking tour of the garden at 11am, followed by a bloggers’ picnic in Ardgillan Castle at 1pm and a guided tour of the kitchen gardens in Ardgillan. If the weather is bad Caitriona and Denise will arrange a covered area to share your food, so don’t worry! The day will be finished by 4pm if not earlier.

Spaces are strictly limited – to reserve your place, email Caitriona directly at wholesomecook (at) gmail (dot) com.

Foodies on Tour: Il Valentino Bakery & Cafe, Dublin

April 27, 2012 in IFBA Events

If you’re interested in Italian pastries, sandwiches and artisan breads, come join us at Il Valentino Bakery at the Grand Canal docks in Dublin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 6th. Yes, it’s early – but we promise there will be amazing coffee!

We’ll sample some of Il Valentino’s food and meet owners Valentina and Owen Doorly (she’s Italian, he’s Irish). They have such a great approach to food – using all pure, fresh ingredients, no additives/preservatives and have a ton of authentic Italian pastries/cakes, sandwiches and breads at their bakery cafe. The bakery also produces bread for 40 Dublin restaurants, so the actual downstairs bakery never closes – it’s in operation 24 hours a day. We’ll get a tour and speak with the head baker.

Valentina has invited us bloggers for some food tasting and discussion that morning, complete with goody bags for everyone. She also would like us to take home and taste-test one of their latest creations (shhhh, it’s top secret!). It is not available yet, so we’d be having an exclusive first look/taste of the product.

There are 14 spots left, so please RSVP to no later than Wednesday, May 3rd. Hope to see you there!

Bloom in the Park: A food bloggers picnic

March 30, 2012 in IFBA Events, Irish Food Festivals

Silke Cropp at Bloom in the Park 2011UPDATE: Spaces for the bloggers’ picnic have now all been filled.

When was the last time we had a food bloggers picnic? We did have a picnic of sorts at the #Irishfoodpix Irish Food Bloggers day held at Bord Bia last year, but the time has come for a real open air Irish picnic to celebrate the best of Irish food – picnic style!

This year, Bord Bia would like to invite us to celebrate Irish food at Bloom in the Park’s Food Market in the company of some fellow European bloggers to help them showcase our food picnic/blog style. This event will take place on Friday, 1 June. Think Irish summer … think Bloom in the Park … think eating – and photographing – a variety of delicious Irish food offerings … think sharing this with some of our blogger colleagues from France, Belgium and the UK! We have a passion for our food here in Ireland, so why not show our love of all things foodie with our counterparts from across the water?

The team @Bordbia will be on hand to give us a guided tour of the show gardens (we can get in early before the crowds too for those of us who would like to take photos of the gardens) and then we’ll meet up with the overseas bloggers and visit the Bloom Food Market. Bord Bia would then like to set the bloggers a small food styling challenge – create and photograph an Irish food picnic on the grounds of Bloom using produce available at the market. The teams of bloggers will be provided with vouchers to purchase items from the market and with these items, a picnic will be styled – we can use some of the great tips we learned last year at #Irishfoodpix with Sharon, Donal and Jocasta. The best styled picnic will be awarded a food hamper from the market containing a variety of Irish food products from the Bloom Food Market.

After the competition we can enjoy the fruits of our labour and the show itself! Bloom in the Park is Ireland’s largest gardening, food and family-friendly event which is held every year on the June bank holiday weekend. This year it runs from 31 May until 4 June in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, which, by the way, is one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces within any European capital city! We are all invited to the Guinness Storehouse that afternoon to visit their new food offering, receive a guided tour and pull a pint at the Gravity Bar. UPDATE: Spaces for the bloggers’ picnic have now all been filled

For more information on Bloom please visit www.bloominthepark.ie or ask @Bordbia or @Bloominthepark via Twitter.

IFBA Holiday Biscuit Recipe Exchange

November 30, 2011 in IFBA Events

One of the highlights of the holiday season is undoubtedly food, especially the seasonal treats like mince pies or Christmas biscuits. So when Anne Marie from the Warm & Snug & Fat blog contacted us recently with the idea to host a bloggers’ holiday biscuit recipe exchange on the IFBA, we jumped on it.

If you’d like to take part, it’s easy!

  • Just leave a comment on this post by Friday, 2 December letting us know you’re interested. Be sure to use a valid email address when you sign in to comment and you must have a food blog to take part.
  • We’ll email you and let you know who you should send your recipe to, which you’ll need to do by Friday, 9 December at the very latest. Your recipe should either be original or properly attributed to its original source and it should be something you’d find on a holiday biscuit plate, so it could range from fudge to gingerbread men.
  • After you’ve received your recipe in the swap, post it to your own blog by Wednesday, 21 December.
  • Be sure to email us the link to your post at irishfoodbloggers {at} gmail {dot} com so we can do a round-up of all the recipes.

Happy baking!

Foodies on Tour: Dingle Food Festival

August 26, 2011 in IFBA Events

DINGLE FOOD BLOGGER INVASION: THE DINGLE FOOD FESTIVAL
Friday the 30th September to Sunday 2nd October

Fancy joining the Irish Foodies on a Dingle Invasion from the 30th of September to the 2nd of October?

That’s the weekend of the The Dingle Food Festival and the Irish Foodies are putting out a call to gather a batallion of food bloggers to descend on Dingle for the weekend.

We’re working with the festival organisers to put together an exciting itinerary for bloggers to make the drive down all the more worthwhile. There’s already talk of a special masterclass with Kevin Murphy of Murphy’s Ice Cream and a fishing trip on a local fishing boat. Plus there’s the Food Trails around the town, the Blas Awards, the festival opening party, a tour of The Dingle Brewing Company’s factory and lots, lots more.

What we need to do now is get an idea of numbers. Once we have numbers, we can finalise our itinerary – which is already shaping up to be a wicked weekend – as well as giving you some help in booking your accommodation.

If you’re interested in joining us, you must have a live food blog. The deadline to reserve a spot is Friday, 2nd September. Partners and families are of course welcome but be sure to let us know that they’ll be coming!

Please email Aoife Mc from I Can Has Cook? at aoifemcelwain[at]gmail[dot]com by Wednesday, the 31st of August to reserve a spot on the trip.

If you’re still not convinced, have a look at www.dinglefood.com for all further details on what’s happening at The Dingle Food Festival. Hope to see you there!
