The DIY Cooking Handbook in the New York Times has lots of great kitchen projects, including how to make your own crème fraîche, preserved lemons or – if you got the butter-making bug last week – a new take on cultured butter.

Like Mexican food? Thomasina Miers has some simple meals on The Observer website – grab some lard and cook up a great Mexican breakfast for yourself.
The one problem with reading Kiwi blogs and food magazines is that the seasons are always turned on their head. Still, the food coming out of New Zealand is so good that I can definitely make exceptions, especially in the case of blogger Bron Marshall who publishes her own magazine online.
