IFBA Mexican Supper Club: Saturday 21 May

April 22, 2011 in IFBA Events

Do you know how to put a taco together? Fancy learning how to make your own corn tortillas? Lily Ramirez-Foran, our very own Amateur Mexican Cook in Ireland, has kindly offered to host a once-off Mexican Supper Club for IFBA members. This will take place in her kitchen in Walkinstown, Dublin 12, from 3pm on Saturday 21 May.

During the afternoon, Lily will show us how to make basic corn tortillas plus three taco fillings. After we’ve all had a chance to making our own, we can sit down together to enjoy a taquiza (a taco fest) and, perhaps, a few margaritas. She is hoping that the weather will be warm enough by then to give a true Mexican Feel to the evening with frozen strawberry margaritas outdoors (she had Kristin at the frozen strawberry margaritas!)

Almacen Latino (www.almacenlatino.com) will sponsor the maize flour for the tortillas as there is no Irish equivalent, and have also offered three tortilla presses and a voucher for their website to raffle on the night.

Lily has costed the ingredients and the price for the food and tuition is just €25 per person. If you’re interested in coming along and discovering that there’s more to Mexican food than just nachos and fajitas, sign up below!

Lily’s full, mouthwatering, menu is below the fold.

Like Mexican food? Thomasina Miers has some simple meals on The Observer website – grab some lard and cook up a great Mexican breakfast for yourself.

The one problem with reading Kiwi blogs and food magazines is that the seasons are always turned on their head. Still, the food coming out of New Zealand is so good that I can definitely make exceptions, especially in the case of blogger Bron Marshall who publishes her own magazine online. Check out last Easter”s edition here.

Lists of hot new trends usually come out in the new year, but here”s one that was posted just yesterday – 10 food trends on the rise.

The BBC programme Supermarkets: What Price Cheap Food? is now available to watch on YouTube.

A fascinating photo essay from Time magazine shows what one day”s worth of food looks like around the world.
